A wireless site survey is a physical survey of the premises where the wireless network will be installed. A site survey report helps visualize the wireless network coverage areas and data rates. Commercial tools are available that use actual measurements to extrapolate and create a coverage graph that shows signal strength and signal quality at different locations of the site. In the simplest form of site survey, you can walk through the facility with a handheld spectrum analyzer and measure the signal strength and possible interference. There are also prediction tools that use the building floor plans and wireless node proposed locations to predict the coverage mathematically instead of using actual measurements.
